Out here in Manpur, which is part of Lalganj in the Vaishali district, things can get pretty busy at the hospital. We are located at number 52, and it is a place where we see people coming in at all hours because of the emergency nature of the work. The building itself is straightforward and doesn't have any of those shiny glass fronts you see in the big cities. Most of us here grew up in Bihar, so we know how the local life goes. During the monsoon, the road outside gets a bit muddy and we spend a lot of time mopping the floors to keep the mud out of the patient rooms. We have a small staff and we all take turns staying late or coming in early. It is not an easy job working in an emergency hospital, but it is what we do every day. Sometimes we sit outside on the steps when it is quiet and just watch the traffic go by on the way to Manpur. We don't have a big cafeteria, just a small corner where we keep the kettle for tea. Usually, people from the surrounding villages come here because they know the location well. We try to keep the paperwork moving fast so families aren't just sitting around waiting. It is just a regular hospital trying to handle the people who walk through the door with whatever problems they have.
