J. S. Farms

Out here at V.P.O. Bal on the Pathankot Road, life moves at a different pace than it does in the middle of a city. J. S. Farms is where we spend most of our waking hours. It is mostly dirt, plants, and whatever weather the sky decides to throw at us today. We have been working this land and running things from this spot for quite a while. The road outside can get pretty busy with trucks heading toward Pathankot, but back on the farm, it is mostly just the sound of the wind or some machinery running. We don't have a big office building. Usually, we just meet near the sheds or in the small room we keep for records. It's dusty and there is always something that needs fixing, whether it is a fence or a tractor. We grow what we can and try to keep things healthy. It is hard work and our hands usually show it by the end of the week. There are no fancy suits here, just work clothes and boots that have seen better days. We know the neighbors around Bal well enough. People help each other out when the harvest comes or when someone’s well goes dry. It is not a complicated business model. We just plant, tend, and hope for the best. Some years are better than others, but that is just how farming goes.
