Maa Sarada Bani Mill

Our mill, Maa Sarada Bani Mill, is situated in Sabra Village. It’s in the Dantan-Ii Block, and the nearest post office is at Khakurda. We are deep in the village area, surrounded by fields. The mill is where the local farmers bring their harvest. We process the grain and help them get it ready for sale or for their own kitchens. It’s a heavy, rhythmic sound that the machines make. I grew up around here and took over the work. It’s not an easy life because the machines often break down and need fixing. I’m usually covered in grease or grain husks. The building is made of brick and has been here for a long time. During the harvest season, there are tractor-trolleys lined up all the way down the dirt road. We work late into the night then. The rest of the year is a bit quieter. We aren't trying to be a big commercial factory. We just serve the people in Sabra and the nearby villages. It’s a place where neighbors meet and talk while the mill is running. There’s no air conditioning, just the breeze coming through the open doors. We use old methods because they work.
