B.K Oils (P) Ltd is based in Jhargram, within the West Midinapur district. It is a rural setting, quite far from the noise of the big cities. We have a large plot of land where we do the oil processing. The air around the mill always smells like crushed seeds and oil, which is quite strong if you aren't used to it. We have a simple office with a ceiling fan that wobbles a bit. Most of the people who work here are from the local villages nearby. We don't use much technology besides the basic machines and an old desktop computer for the accounts. We prefer doing business face-to-face or over the phone. The roads around here can get muddy during the rainy season, which slows down the trucks. We have a big iron gate at the entrance and a small guard hut. There is no fancy branding on our packaging or our building. It’s a very traditional way of doing things. I spend my afternoons sitting on the porch of the office, watching the bags being loaded onto the lorries. Sometimes we have issues with the power supply, so we have a backup generator that makes a lot of noise. We don't really have a plan to expand or anything. We are just happy to keep the mill running and provide work for the local people. It’s a quiet, steady life out here in Jhargram.
