Gupta Store

Gol Bazar is always busy. I open the shutters at Gupta Store early because people here in Paschim Medinipur like to shop before the sun gets too hot. Dealing with the heat is easier in the morning. It is a bit loud with all the rickshaws and people talking, but that is just how it is. We have been here a long while. The walls could use some paint, honestly. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we just sit there with a hand fan. It is a small place but we keep what people need. My father started this and now I just keep it going. There is no computer here, just a big notebook where I write things down. You see the same faces every day. Mrs. Das comes for her lentils and the school kids stop by for bits and pieces. Some days are slow and I just watch the street. Other days it’s a mess and I can’t find my pen. Paschim Medinipur can be a dusty place, so I spend a lot of time wiping the shelves. It never stays clean for long though. We don’t have fancy signs or anything. People just know the blue door in Gol Bazar. That is enough for us. It’s just me and a helper most days, and we manage just fine without any of that modern technology stuff.
