Ganapati Rice Supply

Out here in Paschim Purushottampur, life revolves around the fields and the rice. We run Ganapati Rice Supply from this village near Basantia. It’s a lot of work, especially during the harvest season. We spend our days coordinating with the farmers and the truck drivers. The warehouse is usually full of sacks waiting to be moved. We’re in Purba Medinipur, so the land is good for paddy. We see the whole process from the field to the bag. It’s a noisy business with the trucks idling outside and the sound of heavy bags being dropped. We don't have a big fancy office. Most of the work happens right there on the floor or by the loading dock. We have to keep an eye on the weather because moisture is bad for the rice. If it looks like rain, everyone starts moving faster. It’s a family-run kind of thing. We’ve been doing this for years, and we know the rhythms of the seasons. Sometimes we have to travel to the bigger towns for business, but we always come back here. It’s where our roots are. We just focus on getting the rice supplied to where it needs to go. It’s straightforward work without any extra frills. We just keep the bags moving and the books balanced as best as we can to keep the enterprise going day after day.
