Anjli Handloom

Our location is a bit of a long address, but we are basically at number 8649 on Kutani Road near Pahalwan Chowk. It is in the Little Mount area of Saidapet along the Velachery Road. Anjli Handloom has been sitting in this same spot for quite a long time now. The shop is always full of different fabrics and textures. We do not have one of those big modern glass fronts. It is more of an old-school setup where you walk in and see stacks of material piled up high on every surface. The smell of cotton and fresh weave is something you notice right away. We spend most of our days measuring out lengths of cloth and chatting with people about whatever sewing project they are currently working on. It is slow, steady work that keeps us busy. We do not use computers for much of anything here; most of our notes and tallies are still handwritten. The area around Pahalwan Chowk is always full of life and movement. There are people walking by at all hours of the day. We tend to keep the doors open late into the evening because that is when a lot of our customers finish their own jobs and finally have time to stop in. It is a very family-like environment. We know all the local tailors and the families who have lived in the neighborhood for years. The shelves are stuffed, but we know where everything is.
