Amolak Singh Jacquard Factory

The Amolak Singh Jacquard Factory is situated right on Jatal Road, not too far from Sanjay Chowk. If you stand outside on the street, you can hear the rhythmic clicking and thumping of the jacquard looms from a distance. It is a sound we have grown very used to over the years. Inside the factory, there is a lot of dust from the threads and the fabric, but that is just part of the textile business. We have the machines lined up in rows, and they take up most of the floor space. There is barely enough room to walk between them when they are all running. Sanjay Chowk is always busy, so there is a constant stream of people and vehicles passing by our gates. We usually have rolls of fabric stacked up near the loading area, waiting for a truck to pick them up. The light inside is a bit dim, filtered through the high windows that stay dirty no matter how often we try to clean them. We don't have a fancy showroom. If someone wants to see what we are making, they just come onto the factory floor and look at the looms. It is a noisy, busy place where we spend long hours making sure the patterns are coming out right. Most of the workers have been with us for a long time, and we all just get on with the job. It gets really loud during the peak hours of production.
