B. K. Machine

Our workshop, B. K. Machine, is tucked away in the H.S.I.D.C. Complex at Ram Nagar in Kalka. Specifically, we are at K.K. 38. This area is full of different units making all sorts of things, so there is always the sound of hammers or machines running in the background. We have a few big machines of our own that we use to cut and shape metal parts. It is a lot of measuring and double-checking because if you cut something wrong, the whole piece is junk. The floor is concrete and usually has metal shavings scattered around, even though we try to sweep up every evening. Kalka can get quite cold in the winter, so we usually have to wear heavy jackets while we work since the shutters stay open for ventilation. We have a small corner with a desk where we keep all our drawings and notes on different projects. It’s mostly just us working here, focused on the task at hand. We don’t have fancy signs or a big lobby. If you come by, you’ll likely find us with our heads down over a machine. It is the kind of place where work comes first. We have built up a decent rhythm over the years and we know the other guys in the complex well. It’s a solid place to work.
