Vishnu Provision Store

The shop is tucked away in Nehru Nagar, and if you live around here, you probably know where we are. Vishnu Provision Store isn't very large, but we pack a lot into the space. We have got the heavy bags of rice sitting near the entrance because they are too hard to move further back. Mostly, people come in for the daily stuff like cooking oil, sugar, or a bar of soap. The floor is concrete and gets a bit dusty from the street, but we sweep it out when we can. It is mostly just me or one of the boys standing behind the wooden counter. We use a manual scale for some of the loose items, though we have the digital one too for when we are in a hurry. The shelves go all the way up to the ceiling, so we keep a rickety stool handy to reach the top jars of biscuits. It is quiet in the middle of the day when it is hot outside, so that is when we usually restock the smaller items or check what is running low. Nehru Nagar is a decent place to be. You get to know what people like, like which family always buys the same brand of detergent or who prefers the spicy pickles. It isn't a supermarket. It is just a place to get what you need for the kitchen without making a big deal out of it. We stay open late enough for the people coming back from their offices.
