Dhanlaxmi Fancy & Genral Store

Dhanlaxmi Fancy & Genral Store is located right on College Road. As you can probably guess from the name of the street, we get a lot of college students coming in throughout the day. They usually want things like snacks, notebooks, or items for their hostel rooms. We also carry general everyday items for the families who live in the neighborhood nearby. We sell soap, cooking oil, biscuits, and those kinds of basic things. The shop is quite packed because we try to fit as much as we can onto the shelves. It can be a bit of a squeeze when more than three or four people are inside at the same time. I usually sit at the counter while my younger brother helps find things on the back shelves. We’ve had the store here for quite a while now. We’ve seen many different groups of students come and go over the years. Some of them even stop by to say hello when they visit the town long after they have graduated. It’s a nice feeling. We don't do any big advertising or marketing. Word of mouth is enough for us to keep going. The morning time is usually for the locals buying milk and bread, and the afternoon belongs to the students. We keep the fancy items like earrings and bangles in a separate glass case near the front. It's a busy life, but it's okay.
