Swastik General Store

Sojat City is a quiet place most of the time, and our store is right in the middle of things. We open up early because that is when people like to get their shopping done before the sun gets too high. The shelves are packed with everything from soap and lentils to snacks for the kids coming home from school. It can get a bit cramped inside when more than four or five people are browsing at once. We know most of the customers by their first names because they’ve been coming here for a long time. Sometimes we sit on the wooden bench out front and chat while things are slow. We don't have a computer system or anything like that; we just use a notebook and a calculator to keep track of what we sell. It’s a simple way of living. We try to keep the stocks full, but sometimes the delivery truck is late and we have to tell people to come back tomorrow. The floor is old stone and it stays relatively cool even in the summer. We keep the fans running all day. People stop by not just to buy things but to hear the news of the town. We enjoy being part of the daily routine here. It’s just a regular general store, nothing fancy, but it serves the purpose for the people around Sojat and that is enough for us.
