Suraj Kirana Store

My family has been running Suraj Kirana Store for a long time now. We sit right here at Radha Krishna Marg 534. It's a busy spot, especially in the mornings when everyone wants milk and bread before work. I usually open up early. The shelves stay pretty full with pulses, rice, and all those small things you forget to buy until you run out. Sometimes the street gets dusty from the passing cars, so we are always cleaning the glass jars. People from the nearby houses walk over all the time. We know most of them by name and know what they usually need. It is not a huge place, just a regular shop where you get what you need for the kitchen. If a sack of flour is too heavy for someone, I or my son usually helps out. We keep track of things in a big register. Sometimes the electricity goes out in the afternoon and we just use the sunlight coming through the door. It’s a simple way to make a living. You see the same faces every day. We try to keep the staples in stock so nobody has to go too far into the city. The neighborhood has changed a bit over the years, but the shop stays mostly the same. I spend most of my day behind the counter. Radha Krishna Marg is a good place to be. We just keep doing what we do. If we don’t have something today, it usually comes on the truck. That's just how it goes here.
