Marwar Dal Mill & Company

The mill is located by the Old Bus Stand. It’s an old building but it does the job just fine. When the machines are running you can hear them from down the street and there is always a bit of dust in the air from the dal. We spend the day watching the bags and making sure the machines don’t get stuck. It’s a steady pace of work. The old bus stand area isn’t as crowded as it used to be since the new one opened, but we still have plenty of people coming by. We store the pulses in big sacks and move them around with a trolley when we need to. It’s mostly just us and a couple of workers who have been here for years. We don't really do any big advertising, people just know we are here by the bus stand. Sometimes the power goes out and everything stops, so we just sit outside on the bench until it comes back on. It is a simple way to earn a living. We’ve been part of this neighborhood for a long time and we see the same faces every week. The floor is made of stone and it stays cool in the summer which is nice. We just focus on the milling and getting the bags loaded onto the rickshaws. It is noisy and dusty but we like the work and the people we see.
