Laxmi Kirana & General Merchant

Our shop Laxmi Kirana & General Merchant is tucked away in the Old Housing Board area at 3 / 284. It is a quiet neighborhood compared to the main town markets which I actually prefer. Most of the people who come here are neighbors who live just a few houses away. They might realize they ran out of salt or matches while they are cooking dinner and they just walk over. Being in the Housing Board means I know whose kids are growing up and who has moved away over the years. The shop carries things like soap and lentils and some basic plastic items for the house. I keep the front area clean and sometimes put a few crates outside if the delivery is too big for the inside shelves. It is not a place where strangers come very often because we are off the main road. I have a small desk where I keep my accounts and a heavy iron safe for the cash. The building is older and has high ceilings which helps it stay a little bit cooler during the summer months. I spend a lot of time just chatting with the regular customers about the local news or the weather. It is a simple life running a general store in a residential area like this one. I try to keep the shelves full so no one has to go all the way to the big market.
