Kumar Kirana Store

If you walk into Indra colony, you will find our small place, Kumar Kirana Store. It is a quiet neighborhood shop, nothing like the big markets in the center of town. We mostly serve the families who live on these few streets. Most of our customers are people we have known for years. They come in for their daily milk, bread, or maybe some spices for dinner. We keep a ledger for the regulars who pay at the end of the month, which is how things have always been done here. The shop smells like a mix of dried chilies and laundry soap because of all the different items we keep in such a tight space. We have some metal shelves that are starting to show their age, but they hold everything just fine. Sometimes, we help the older ladies carry their heavy bags of flour back to their gates if we aren't too busy. It is a slow pace of life here. We open up early, around seven, and stay open until the street lights come on and everyone has finished their cooking. It’s just a simple grocery store meant to make things easier for the folks living nearby. We don’t have a computer or anything, just a calculator and a pen. It is an honest way to make a living and we like being part of the colony. We handle everything ourselves and keep the place running every single day for the neighbors.
