Khetalaji Kirana Store

Khetalaji Kirana Store has been a part of Ramdev Road for many years. We are a traditional grocery shop, the kind where you can find everything from loose lentils and rice to spices and soaps. The shop is quite crowded because we try to stock as much as possible in a small space. There are sacks of grain stacked on the floor and rows of tins and packets on the walls. We spend a lot of our time weighing out items on the scale and pouring them into paper or plastic bags for our customers. It is a bit of a dusty job, especially when we are handling the big sacks of flour, but that is just part of running a kirana store. Ramdev Road is a lively place, and we see a lot of the same people every single day. We don't use any fancy computers for our accounts; we still write everything down in a big ledger book by hand. It feels more natural that way. Sometimes when it gets really busy, people have to wait their turn for a bit, but nobody seems to mind too much. We know who likes which brand of tea and who prefers a certain type of rice. It's a simple way of doing business based on knowing the neighbors and making sure they have what they need for their daily meals. We just keep the shop open and keep the shelves filled, month after month.
