K K General Store

If you walk down Zarda Bazar 44, you’ll find us tucked in between the other shops. K K General Store is just a basic place where we keep all the things people need for their houses. We’ve got soaps, pulses, biscuits, and those little packets of spices that everyone uses every day. It’s a bit cramped inside because we try to fit as much stock as possible on the wooden shelves. I spend most of my morning checking what ran out yesterday and talking to the delivery guys who bring the crates in. The street outside is usually quite noisy with scooters and people walking by, so there is always something to look at. We know most of the people who live nearby by their first names or just by what they usually buy. Someone might come in for just one single egg or a small pouch of oil, and that’s fine. We don't have a computer system or anything; we just write things down in a notebook when we need to remember a price. The fan in the corner makes a bit of a rattling noise, but it keeps the air moving. Dealing with change is always a bit of a headache, especially early in the day when everyone has big bills. We just keep the doors open from early morning until late evening. It’s a lot of repetitive work, lifting bags and dusting jars, but it’s what we do here in the market.
