Running Jigar Kirana Store near the New Bus Stand in Kesav Nagar means things are always moving. Since we are so close to where the buses come and go, we see a lot of different faces every day. Some are locals from the colony, but many are just passing through and need a quick snack or a bottle of water for their trip. The shop is usually crowded in the mornings when the first buses start rolling out. We have to keep the shelves filled with plenty of biscuits, chips, and small packets of things that are easy to carry. The floor gets dirty pretty fast with everyone walking in, so we are always sweeping. It is a bit loud with the engines running outside and the conductors shouting, but you get used to it after a while. We have been here for a good bit of time now, and we know which items sell the fastest. Sometimes we sit on the wooden bench outside when it’s quiet just to catch a breath. We keep the pulses and grains in big plastic containers behind the counter. It’s not a large shop, so we have to be smart about where we put everything. Most days are long, but it feels good to be part of the hustle and bustle of the bus stand area. We just do our best to have what people need and make sure the shelves are not empty when the evening crowd arrives.
