Ekta General Store

If you go towards Surajpole, you’ll find us. Ekta General Store is a small spot but we try to keep it packed with the things people actually need. We get a lot of foot traffic because of the location. People walking by to the main market or heading home often stop for a quick bottle of water or some tea leaves. It’s the kind of shop where you can find a needle or a bucket, all in the same aisle. We don't have fancy displays; we just stack things where they fit. Sometimes the shelves look a bit crowded, but that’s just how a general store is. We know which neighbors like which brand of cooking oil and we try to keep that in stock for them. The mornings are usually for the housewives getting their daily supplies, and the evenings are for the men coming back from work wanting a snack. We’ve been here at Surajpole for a long time, watching the area change while we stay pretty much the same. It’s a lot of standing and talking and weighing out grains. We don't use a lot of technology, just a simple scale and a ledger for those who pay at the end of the month. It's a community thing more than just a shop. We are just part of the daily routine for the folks living nearby, helping them get their shopping done quickly.
