Dhan Laxmi Provision Store is situated right at the Maharana Pratap Choraha on Sardar Samand Road. Being at a major crossing like this means there is never a dull moment. We see thousands of people passing by every single day, whether they are on foot, on cycles, or in cars. The shop is mostly filled with big sacks of grains, pulses, and spices that we sell by weight. We have to be careful with the dust from the road, so we are constantly cleaning the front area and the display jars. The Choraha is a landmark, so we often have people using our shop as a meeting point. "Meet me at the provision store at the crossing," they say. It keeps us busy, especially when the evening rush starts and everyone is heading home and remembers they need oil or salt. We have a small television in the corner that we keep on for the news, but mostly we are too busy serving customers to watch it much. The shelves are made of simple plywood and they are sagging a bit under the weight of all the canned goods and jars.
