Bhati Udhyog is found in the Surajpole area. It’s more of a workshop than a regular shop. We have some machines here that make quite a bit of noise when they are running. The floor is concrete and often has bits of metal or shavings on it. I spend my days wearing an apron and working with my hands. Surajpole is a busy part of town with a lot of workshops and small factories. The air always feels a bit heavy with the smell of oil and iron. We have a large metal door that we slide open in the morning to let the light in. There aren't many places to sit, just a couple of wooden stools near the small desk where I keep the bills. I often have grease on my hands by lunchtime. It’s hard work and it gets very hot in the summer under the tin roof. We don't have any fancy decorations on the walls, just some calendars and a few tools hanging on hooks. People come to us when they need specific things made or fixed. I’ve been in this trade for a long time and I know my way around the equipment. Sometimes the noise is a bit much for the people passing by, but that is just how we work. We keep a bucket of water near the door to wash up before we go home. It’s a plain, working-class place.
