Our shop is right in the middle of the busy Sarafa Bazar at Roopam Market, number 3. It’s a crowded area but it’s where all the action is. Jabbar Singh Bhati is the name on the sign, and we’ve been here for many years. The shop itself isn't very big, so we have to use every bit of shelf space we have. We sell various things that the local people need, and most of our day is spent talking to customers face-to-face. There isn't any fancy technology here, just a counter and our goods. We don't do any advertising; people just know where we are. The market can be very loud and dusty, but that’s just the way it is here. We open up the shutters early in the morning and stay until the market starts to quiet down in the evening. It’s a very traditional way of working. We know most of the other shopkeepers in Sarafa Bazar, so it feels like a little community. We don't have a corporate structure or a big team, just a few of us making sure everything is in order. Sometimes business is slow, especially when it rains, but we just wait it out. It’s an honest way to make a living. If you are walking through the market, you can’t miss us. We just keep things simple and try to help anyone who walks through the door. It’s just a regular local shop doing its best. We don't need much else to be happy here.
