Bagwati General Store

Sumerpur Road is a main stretch and that is where you will find Bagwati General Store. We handle all the normal stuff people need for their houses, like bags of flour, soaps, and those little snacks the kids like. It is a lot of lifting heavy sacks and making sure the milk arrives on time every morning. The store is packed from floor to ceiling because we try to have whatever someone might ask for at the last minute. If a neighbor runs out of salt while cooking dinner, they usually come running here. We know most of the families who live around Sumerpur Road by their first names. It’s a bit of a workout, standing on our feet all day and reaching for jars on the top shelves. We don't use any fancy computer systems for everything; we just know where things are kept. The floor gets swept a few times a day because of the dust from the road, but it never stays clean for long. Sometimes it gets really busy in the evenings when everyone is coming home from work. People stand around and talk for a minute while we bag their groceries. It is a simple way to earn a living, surrounded by biscuits, detergent, and the daily news. We have been in this same spot for a long time now, watching the road get busier every year and the traffic increase.
