Our setup is out on Mandia Road, specifically in Mandia Village at plot 663/4. It is more of a small processing unit than a regular shop. We deal with food products, mostly things like grinding spices or packing local staples. The air inside is always thick with the smell of whatever we are processing that day, like turmeric or dried chilies. It’s a noisy place with the grinding machines running for several hours at a time. We have a small group of workers from the village who help with the sorting and the bagging. The building is a simple structure with a tin roof that gets very loud when it rains. We focus on getting the work done and making sure the bags are sealed properly so the food stays good. Being in Mandia Village means we are a bit away from the main city rush, which helps us focus on the production side of things. We load the finished sacks onto small tempos that take them to the markets. It’s dusty work and we all wear scarves over our faces to keep from sneezing. We don’t have a website or anything like that; we just work with the local traders who know the quality of what we produce here. It’s a grounded, physical job that depends on the harvest and the machines staying in good shape. We just take it one day at a time here.
