Bhayander East is a crowded place, and Kedia Enterprises is right in the thick of it. You can hear the trains arriving at the station if the wind is blowing the right way. Our space is more of a storage room with a desk tucked into the corner than a proper office. We have stuff piled up to the ceiling sometimes, and you have to navigate through the aisles carefully. It’s a lot of physical work, moving things around and checking the inventory. The air is always a bit salty because we aren't that far from the creek. It’s a busy, sweaty kind of job, and we usually go home with dirt on our hands. We don’t have a fancy computer system; we still write a lot of things down in those big red account books. The neighbors are mostly other small businesses, so there’s a lot of shouting back and forth across the lane. It’s not the kind of place where you’d wear a suit. We wear old t-shirts and sandals because that’s what makes sense here. Sometimes the electricity cuts out in the middle of the day, and we just sit out on the step and watch the people go by. It’s a rough and tumble way to make a living, but it’s what we know, and we’ve been doing it this way for a long time.
