Our little setup is way out in Ketar village. It is part of the Bhawanathpur area in Garhwa. Even though the official name says Kolkata, we are deep in Jharkhand. The office is right there in the village, so everyone knows who we are. It’s a rural place where things move slowly. We deal with the power and steel side of things from a small room with a fan. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we just sit there and wait. It’s not like those big city offices with air conditioning. We have our files stacked up in the corner. Most of the time we are talking to the local guys or checking on the transport trucks that pass through the district. The dust from the road gets everywhere. You can’t really keep the floor clean for more than an hour. We don’t have a website or anything like that. People just walk in if they need something. We drink a lot of tea and talk about the weather or the local crops while we work. It’s a very practical way to live. The hills around Garhwa are nice to look at when you step outside for a smoke. We just handle the business as it comes. It is an honest living, even if it feels a long way from the big head office.
