Running a place like this on Palakkad Road takes a lot of energy. We are inside Mall Aslam, which stays pretty active throughout the day. Every morning starts with checking the produce and making sure the aisles are clear for the shoppers. It’s a lot of walking back and forth. We have everything from soap to snacks piled up on the shelves. Sometimes the delivery trucks arrive all at once and then it’s a scramble to get everything off the pallets. We try to keep the lights bright so people can see what they are looking for. The checkout counters get crowded in the evenings when everyone is heading home from work. You hear the same beeps from the scanners all day long. We have a few regulars who come in just to see what’s new or to grab one thing they forgot. The floors need mopping constantly because of the foot traffic. It’s a big space to look after. We spend a lot of time rearranging things to make room for new stock. It’s just the usual supermarket life, really. Between stocking the shelves and helping people find where the rice is hidden, the hours go by pretty fast. We don't have a lot of downtime once the doors open. It’s just us and the rows of groceries waiting for the next person to walk through the entrance. We try to stay organized even when the place gets really packed during the weekend sales.
