Athithya Tools

Our place, Athithya Tools, is over on Venus Street in Mathiazagan Nagar. If you know Padi, you know it’s a lot of workshops and heavy stuff moving around. We are at No. 18 A/ 5 and there’s usually some metal clanging nearby. It’s a dusty part of town, but that’s just how it is when you work with tools and hardware all day. The shop floor is where most of the action happens. We spend a lot of time checking gauges and making sure the edges are right. It’s not the kind of place where you’d want to wear a nice suit. There is usually grease on someone’s hands or on the benches. We don’t have a big sign or a fancy lobby. You just walk in and we see what you need. Some days are slower than others, but there is always something that needs fixing or a part that needs to be found in the back. The shelves are pretty full of bits and pieces we’ve collected over the years. We know where most of it is, even if it looks like a mess to someone else. It gets hot in the afternoons under the tin roof, so we take breaks when we can. It’s just honest work with our hands. We’ve been here in this corner of Padi for a good while now and the neighbors are all doing similar work. We just keep the machines running and the floor swept.
