Rawat Handicrafts

You can find us over in Nangloi, near the Akash Model School in the Nithari Extension. The address is A-127 Baljeet Bihar. It’s a bit of a maze to get here if you aren't from this part of town. Our workshop is where all the handicrafts get made. It’s mostly wood and metal pieces that people use to decorate their homes. There are piles of wood shavings on the floor and the smell of varnish is pretty strong most afternoons. We have a few artisans who sit on the floor and work on the details by hand. It takes a long time to finish one piece, but that’s just how it goes here. We don't use big automated machines for the delicate stuff. It’s a bit crowded in here because we keep all the finished items on shelves along the walls. Sometimes we run out of space and have to stack boxes in the hallway. The kids from the school nearby walk past every day, and it's always noisy around three o'clock when they get out. We’ve been in this building for quite a few years now. It’s a family-run type of vibe, even for the people who aren't actually related. We drink a lot of tea and try to get the orders out to the shops that sell our things. It’s simple work, but it keeps us busy from Monday to Saturday and we like it that way.
