Lakshmi Medicos

We are a small shop called Lakshmi Medicos located at number 3 in the Begum Zaidi Market of Daya Basti. It’s a local market where everyone seems to know each other. Our space is filled with shelves from floor to ceiling, packed with all sorts of medicine boxes and health supplies. There isn't much room for more than a couple of people to stand inside at once. We spend our days checking the stock and helping people who come in with their prescriptions. The market outside is always bustling with people buying vegetables or clothes. You can hear the trains passing by sometimes since Daya Basti is near the tracks. It’s a working-class area and we’ve been part of it for a long time. We don't have a fancy computer system; we still do a lot of things the old way. The shop has a big metal shutter that we pull up every morning. We keep a fan going in the summer to stay cool, but it’s still pretty hot in there. We don't use any big words or marketing tricks to get people in. We just try to have the medicine they need when they need it. It’s a simple business run by regular people. We have our tea together in the afternoon and wait for the evening rush when people are heading home from work. That is our day, and we wouldn't know it any other way.
