Being at the Pitampura Market means we have to start our day way before most people are even awake. The milk crates arrive early and we have to get everything unloaded and into the coolers before the sun comes up. It’s usually cold and quiet then, which is a nice change from how the market gets later on. By eight in the morning, the families start coming in for their daily supply. We handle a lot of milk, curd, and other dairy items. The floors stay a bit damp because of the ice and cleaning, so we wear sturdy boots all day. Our shop isn't big, but we use every inch of space for storage. We don’t have a fancy website or a way to order online; people just come to the window and tell us what they need. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to worry about the refrigeration, but we have a backup that usually holds up. The smell of fresh milk is something you just stop noticing after a few years. We know most of the regulars by their face if not their name. It’s a simple business and we don't try to make it sound like anything else. We just make sure the products are fresh and ready for the neighborhood every single morning without fail. There is always a stray dog or two waiting near the back for any spills, and we don't mind them much.
