Down here in the Tuem Industrial Estate, we occupy a couple of different plots, 38/38 and 42/45. Being in Goa, people often think it’s all about the beaches and relaxing, but inside these gates, it’s all about the manufacturing work. We do a lot of different things depending on what the clients need that week. Our floor is always busy with the sound of tools and people shouting over the noise to get things done. We don’t really bother with all the corporate polish you see in the big cities like Mumbai or Delhi. We just have a job to do and we do it. The rain during the monsoon season hits the metal roof so loud you can barely hear yourself think sometimes. We all just huddle in and keep the work going despite the weather. Most of us live nearby, so there’s a real local feel to the place. We share lunch and talk about the local news or whatever is happening in the village down the road. It’s not a high-tech lab; it’s a workshop where real things get built by hand. Sometimes things go wrong, a machine breaks or a shipment is late, and we just fix it and move on. We don’t have a big mission statement on the wall. We just want to make stuff that works and keep our customers from complaining. It’s a simple life for us.
