If you’re looking for Shailendra Kumar, you have to come deep into Shastri Park. My place is at C-1/52/2, right in Gali No 8. It can be a bit of a maze if you aren’t used to these streets. There are always kids playing in the lane and scooters zooming past, so you have to keep your eyes open. I’ve been working from this spot for a while now. It’s a small space, nothing like those big offices you see in the center of the city. I have my tools and my desk, and that’s about it. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but they’ve seen a lot of hard work over the years. I usually start my day early, before the lane gets too crowded. Most of my customers are people from the neighborhood or someone who heard about me from a friend. I don’t bother with advertisements or anything like that. I just do what I need to do and try to do it right. Sometimes the noise from the street is a bit much, but you get used to it after a while. It’s a lively place to be, and there is always something happening outside the door. I’m just a regular person trying to make a living and help out whoever comes to Gali No 8. It’s not much, but it’s honest work and I’m glad to be here. I keep a small radio playing in the background while I work. And then I lock up and walk home for dinner.
