Vaishali Design Centre

If you wander into Gali Kashmirian in the Kucha Pati Ram area of Delhi, you’ll eventually stumble across us. It’s a very old part of the city, and the lanes are narrow and winding. You can’t really get a big car back here, so there’s a lot of walking and people on cycles. Our design centre is right in the middle of all that history. It’s a bit noisy outside with the sounds of the market and people talking, but inside it’s a bit calmer. We spend our days working on different patterns and designs. The walls are a bit stained from the years, but it gives the place some character. We have a lot of fabric scraps and paper drawings lying around because we’re always in the middle of something new. It’s not a high-tech studio; we just use what works for us. Sometimes the power goes out and we just have to wait it out or work by the window light until it comes back. We’ve been here for a long time, and the building has been through a lot of changes. We don't have a fancy website or a big sales pitch. Most of our work comes from people who know us or have seen our designs in the neighborhood. It’s a crowded, busy, and sometimes messy way to work, but it’s the way we’ve always done it here in Delhi. We keep some plants on the ledge, but they struggle a bit with the heat.
