The Himalayan Fruit Bowl

The Himalayan Fruit Bowl is tucked away inside the Horticulture Planning & Marketing Complex at Shalimar Bagh. We are at Br-2. If you know the complex, it is a very busy hub for fruit and vegetables. Our days start very early, often before the sun is even up. That is when the crates start arriving. The smell of fresh fruit is everywhere, which is one of the better parts of the job. It is not a retail shop where you come to buy a single kilo of apples. It is more of a wholesale workspace. There are wooden boxes and cardboard scattered everywhere. The floor is usually a bit messy with straw. We don't have a fancy office. It’s just a small room with a desk and a couple of old chairs where we keep the records. Shalimar Bagh is a well-known spot, so we get a lot of people coming through. We don't do any promotional stuff. Most of our business comes from people we have known for a long time. It is a lot of physical work, moving crates and checking the quality of the produce. By the afternoon, the rush dies down and we finally get a chance to sit and have some food. It is a simple way to earn a living, and it keeps us busy. We are just a local operation doing our part in the market.
