S.M.Varma & Co. is up on the first floor at A-829 in Shastri Nagar. We are right by the Hanuman Mandir, so you can always hear what is happening at the temple from our windows. It is a busy spot in New Delhi. The office has been here for a while now. We mostly spend our days dealing with files and calculators. There is a lot of paper around the desks because that is just how this work goes. It can get a bit loud outside with the traffic and people going to the temple, but inside we just keep our heads down and do the numbers. The stairs up to the first floor are a little steep, so we tell people to take their time. We do not have anything fancy here, just some desks, chairs, and a lot of filing cabinets. The light comes in nicely in the afternoons. Sometimes the fans are a bit noisy when it gets hot in Delhi, but they work fine. Most people who come in are from around this area or have been visiting us for years. We just try to get the work done before the day ends. It is not a huge team, just a few of us sitting here doing the tax work and looking at balance sheets. If the door is open, you can usually smell the tea being made in the small corner. That is pretty much what it is like here every day.
