Dharam Vir & Sons is located right in the middle of the New Subzi Mandi at Azadpur, at A-287 to be exact. If you’ve ever been to the mandi, you know it’s a chaotic place, especially in the early hours before the sun is even up properly. That’s when our day really starts. We’ve been handling produce here for a long time, and it’s a family thing that’s been passed down. There are always crates of vegetables piled up and people shouting prices across the floor. It’s not a quiet office job by any means. Our shoes are usually a bit muddy and there’s always the smell of fresh greens and earth in the air. We spend our time talking to farmers who bring their trucks in and the retailers who come to buy for their own shops. It is a fast pace and you have to be quick with your numbers or you’ll lose out. We don’t have fancy furniture or a reception area; we have a desk, some ledgers, and a lot of floor space for the stock. We deal with the weather, the traffic in Azadpur, and the fluctuating prices every single day. It’s hard work and the hours are strange, but it’s what we know. A-287 is where we put in the hours, making sure the food gets from the fields to the city tables without too much fuss.
