Balaji Switchgears Pvt. Ltd. is based at 2006, Katra Lacchu Singh in Bhagirath Palace. This is the main electrical market in Old Delhi, so it’s always incredibly crowded. The lanes are narrow and you have to dodge rickshaws and people carrying heavy loads of wire on their shoulders just to get to our door. Our shop is packed from floor to ceiling with electrical switches, gears, and all sorts of components. There isn't much room to move around once a few customers are inside. It smells like old paper and copper. We have been here for years and we know the history of these lanes. It gets very hot in the summer and the ceiling fans just hum loudly overhead. We don't have a website that we update or any fancy brochures. People know us because we’ve been in this market for so long. We spend our days writing out bills by hand and checking the stock in the back room. The noise from the street never stops until late at night. We drink tea from the local stall several times a day and talk to the other traders nearby. It’s a traditional way of doing business. It’s messy and loud and the wiring in the building looks like a bird’s nest, but we know exactly where everything is. It’s just life in Bhagirath Palace for us.
