Metro Hosiery

We have been here in South 24 Parganas for a while now. Metro Hosiery is just a small place near the harbor side in Diamond Harbour. Most days it gets pretty humid, but we keep the doors open to let the air in. We sell mostly basics like vests and socks. People come in from the nearby villages when they have work in town. The shop isn't fancy. There are cardboard boxes stacked up to the ceiling because the room is narrow and we have a lot of stock. Sometimes the delivery truck gets stuck in the narrow lane outside, so we have to carry the heavy bundles by hand. It’s hard work especially in summer. We don't have a big sign, just the name Metro Hosiery painted on a board. My brother and I take turns sitting at the desk. The fans hum all day long. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit outside on plastic stools. It’s a quiet life here. We know most of our customers by their names. They stop by to chat even if they aren't buying anything today. The tea stall next door is where we get our morning chai. It helps start the day when the stock is heavy. We don't do fancy advertising. If you need hosiery, you just find us near the main road. The building is old but it stays mostly cool inside. We keep the inventory simple. Nothing modern, just what people wear every day. We open early and close when the sun goes down.
