Lokenath Mudi Bhander

Lokenath Mudi Bhander is a small shop in Guma, specifically in the Sukantapally area. Our address is right in the village, near the Guma post office and under the Ashoknagar police station. It is deep in the North 24 Parganas district. We deal with mudi and other grocery items that families here use every day. Life here moves at its own pace. We open the shop after the morning market rush is mostly over. The shelves are filled with jars of spices, lentils, and sacks of rice sitting on the floor. It can get a bit crowded when more than three people stand inside, but we manage. Being in Sukantapally means we are part of a tight community where everyone knows everyone’s business. We don't use any computers for our accounts, just a thick notebook and a pen. Sometimes the electricity goes out for a few hours, and we just sit by the door until it comes back. The rain in this part of Bengal can be heavy, and then we have to move the sacks away from the entrance. We have been here for a good amount of time now. People come to us because we are close to their homes and they know they can get what they need for dinner. It is a plain way of living, but it keeps us busy and we like the people around here. We just stay open until the last customer finishes their shopping.
