Jharna Garments

Living and working in Banihati is a quiet life most of the time. Our place is under the Habra police station area, out here in 24 Parganas North. If you know the Post-Jessore area, you can find us pretty easily. Jharna Garments isn't some big factory like you see in the cities. It is more of a local setup where we handle the cloth and do the sewing. We started this because we needed something to do close to home. My wife and a couple of ladies from the village come in to help most days. We sit together, work on the machines, and talk about what’s happening in the neighborhood. The heat can get pretty bad in the afternoons, so we usually take a long break then. The electricity goes out sometimes, which stops the machines, but we just wait it out or do the cutting work by hand. It’s not a fast process. We make what we can and send it off. The road out to Jessore is where the main transport happens, so we spend a lot of time getting things ready for the trip there. It’s just us doing our work in the village. We’ve been here for years and everyone knows where the house is. It’s a simple way to make a living and we don't plan on changing much about how we do things.
