About Bengal Thread – Fashion & Trends in North 24 Parganas
We are out in Lakshmipur, near Habra. It’s more of a village area. Bengal Thread is run out of a small space here. It’s not like those big factories you see in the city. We deal with a lot of spools and different colors. My family has been doing this kind of work for a long time. It’s quiet out here compared to the main towns. You can hear the birds and the occasional motorbike passing by. We don't have a fancy sign, just the address for people to find us. It’s mostly local weavers and tailors who come to us. They need specific things and we try to keep them in stock. Sometimes we run out of a certain shade and have to wait for more to come in. The room is filled with the smell of cotton and thread. It’s a good smell. We spend our days sorting through the inventory. It’s repetitive work, but we don't mind it. It’s what we know. My daughter helps with the counting sometimes after her classes. We keep a ledger on the old wooden desk. It’s a bit messy with ink stains. We aren't looking to expand into some giant company. We just want to keep supplying the local folks with what they need for their sewing. It’s a quiet life but we are satisfied with it.
