About Disha Competitive Study Centre – Education in North 24 Parganas
Out here at Singhir Morebaidya Bagan in Amtala, things are usually focused on books. The study centre is a place where students gather to try and figure out their futures. We have rows of benches and a few whiteboards that are always covered in notes and equations. It isn't a luxury school. It's just a room where people come to put in the hard work for their exams. The fans hum all day to keep the heat away, but it still gets warm when the room is full. I see students coming from different villages around Amtala, some walking quite a distance. They bring their own water bottles and tattered textbooks. We spend the hours going over old question papers and trying to explain things in a way that makes sense. Sometimes someone gets frustrated and we have to take a break. It's rewarding when someone finally gets a good score after months of sitting in these chairs. The street outside has a few tea stalls where the students go during their breaks to discuss their answers. We don't have any flashy gadgets, just the basic stuff you need to learn. My job is to keep the place organized and make sure everyone has a seat. It's a quiet kind of life, surrounded by paper and ink. Every year a new batch comes in with the same hopes. We just try to help them get through the syllabus.
