Being over here at Noida Labour Chowk is quite an experience every single morning. If you know the area, you know how crowded it gets with people looking for work and trucks squeezing through the narrow gaps in traffic. Our place, Stone Chem India, is right in the thick of that environment. We deal with all the liquids and powders you need when you are working with stone, like the glues and those sealers that stop stains from ruining a floor. The shop usually smells a bit like chemicals, which I guess is expected. I spend a lot of time behind the counter just talking to contractors who need a specific resin for a job they are doing nearby. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we just sit there with the door open to get some light from the street. We are not a big corporate office with glass walls. It is just a practical space where we keep our stock piled up on wooden pallets. My desk is usually covered in old receipts and half-empty chai cups by the afternoon. We have seen this neighborhood change a lot over the years, but the demand for stone chemicals stays pretty steady. It is a lot of lifting heavy cans and making sure the lids are on tight so nothing leaks in the back. Most of our customers are just local guys who have been coming to us for years because they know exactly where we are.
