If you find yourself in Sector-8, we’re over at A-11. It’s a decent-sized spot where we handle all the shoe-related stuff that comes our way. You can usually smell the materials from the doorway, that mix of rubber and glue that sticks to your clothes by the end of the shift. The floors are concrete and have marks from years of moving heavy crates around. We have machines that hum all day long, creating a constant vibration you can feel in your feet. It’s not a place for fancy suits or polished floors. Most of us wear old shirts because things tend to get messy when we are working. We have a big table in the middle where we sort through the different parts, and there is always someone counting something or checking a label. The windows are high up, so we don't see much of the street, but we can hear the rain hitting the roof pretty loud during the monsoon. We take our breaks in the small yard out back, sitting on plastic crates and talking about anything except work for twenty minutes. It’s a straightforward environment. We focus on the pieces in front of us and try to make sure everything is boxed up correctly before the truck arrives in the evening. It’s just a regular factory day, every day.
