Rahul Shoe Maker

My name is Rahul and I work out of this small shop at G-11 in Indira Market. We are very close to the Shiv Mandir in Sector 27. This isn't a place where you find rows of brand new boxes. Instead, it is a place where we fix things. I spent a lot of my life learning how to work with leather and rubber. People bring me their favorite boots that have holes in the soles or bags with broken straps. I sit on my stool with my tools spread out around me. There is always the smell of glue and cut leather in the air. The sound of the temple bells nearby is a constant thing during the day. It’s a small space and it gets a bit cluttered with all the repair jobs waiting in line. I do make some shoes from scratch too, but mostly I am helping people keep their old ones going. It is honest work and it takes some patience to get the stitching right. I have lived around Sector 27 for a long time. People know they can drop off their shoes in the morning and pick them up later. I don't have a website or anything like that. I just stay here at the workbench and do the repairs as they come in. It is a simple life and I like working with my hands.
