Working at Baskin Robbins in the Great India Place mall is a different kind of busy. We are on the ground floor in Sec-38a, so there is always a crowd walking past our counter. The mall lights are always bright and the music from the hallways never really stops. Our main job is keeping the freezers at the right temperature so everything stays frozen. You can hear the constant hum of the cooling units if you stand still for a second. On weekends, it gets really packed with families and groups of friends. We spend those hours reaching into the deep tubs and keeping the glass display clean of fingerprints, which is almost impossible with so many kids around. It’s a lot of standing and moving between the different stations. We have our little uniforms and we try to keep everything looking neat, even when we are tired. The ground floor of GIP is a hectic place to be, but we have a good view of everyone coming into the mall. Sometimes it gets a bit cold behind the counter because of all the ice, so we stay moving to keep warm. It isn't a huge space, just enough for us to work and for people to point at what they want. We just show up, do our shifts, and make sure the freezer doors are shut tight at the end of the night.
