Our site is located at Sy No 367/1 in Koratpally, over in the Dichpally area. It is a very dusty place, which is expected when you are in the business of crushing stones all day. The machinery is huge and makes a lot of noise when it’s running. We spend most of our time out in the yard, watching the rocks go through the crushers and come out as smaller pieces. There are always trucks coming in and out to pick up loads of gravel or grit. We have to wear boots and old clothes because everything gets covered in a layer of grey dust within an hour. It’s hard work and the sun beats down on the yard, but we have our routine. We keep an eye on the conveyor belts and make sure nothing gets jammed up in the teeth of the machines. The piles of crushed stone grow pretty high by the end of the week. Most of the people working here have been doing this for years, so we know the sounds the machines make when something isn't right. It’s not a place for anyone who likes to stay clean. We’re just out here in Koratpally, doing the basic work of breaking down rock so it can be used for building roads or houses. It is a straightforward job, though it is physically tiring by the time we shut everything down for the evening.
