Smart Teach

We’ve been here at Surana Bhawan in Lalita Park for a while now. It’s right in the middle of the busy Lakshmi Nagar area, so there’s always a lot of noise outside, but once you come into 1/10, things settle down a bit. My desk is near the window and I can see the street life while I wait for the students to show up after their school lets out. Most days, it’s just us sitting around these old wooden tables trying to make sense of the books. It’s nothing fancy, just some chairs and a whiteboard that’s seen better days. We started this place because we noticed a lot of kids in the neighborhood needed a quiet spot to study that wasn't their crowded living rooms. Sometimes the power goes out and we just open the windows and keep going. It gets hot in Delhi summers, but we have a couple of fans that do the job. People know us around here as the place where you can actually get some work done without too much fuss. We don’t have a big reception or anything like that. Usually, I’m the one opening the door in the morning and locking up late at night. It's a lot of work but seeing someone finally get a math problem right makes the long hours feel okay. We just take it one day at a time here.
